Walk beneath impressive torii gates and follow the tree-lined approach towards the main shrine complex while discovering Japanese traditions, shrine etiquette and the cultural importance of Shinto practices. The serene surroundings create a striking contrast to the modern neighbourhoods located just beyond the shrine grounds.

09:00 AM – 10:30 AM Begin the morning amid the atmosphere of Tsukiji Outer Market, where narrow streets are filled with speciality food shops, traditional ingredients, small eateries and Japanese culinary culture. Walk through the market with your guide while discovering local produce, seafood traditions, Japanese snacks and the everyday food culture that has made Tsukiji one of Tokyo’s most recognisable culinary districts. Guests will also have limited free time to browse independently or purchase food and refreshments directly from market vendors.

11:00 AM – 12:30 PM Continue towards the heart of Tokyo for a visit to the historic surroundings of the Imperial Palace, residence of Japan’s Imperial Family. Explore the beautifully maintained East Gardens, where landscaped grounds, stone walls and remnants of Edo Castle offer a peaceful glimpse into Japan’s imperial and samurai-era history. Enjoy a guided walk through the gardens while discovering how one of the world’s largest modern cities developed around this historic centre.

02:30 PM – 04:30 PM Step into the extraordinary world of teamLab Borderless, where digital art moves beyond traditional gallery boundaries and transforms entire rooms into immersive environments of light, colour and motion. Explore interconnected artworks that respond, evolve and flow from one space into another, creating one of Tokyo’s most distinctive contemporary experiences. Guests may move through the exhibition at their own pace while discovering an entirely different expression of Japan’s creativity and technological imagination.

11:00 AM – 01:00 PM Arrive in the beautiful Fuji Five Lakes region and experience one of Japan’s most iconic landscapes around Lake Kawaguchi. Enjoy carefully selected viewpoints overlooking the lake and, when weather conditions permit, magnificent views of Mount Fuji rising above the surrounding landscape. Walk along the lakeside, capture photographs and enjoy time to appreciate the quieter natural side of Japan after three days in Tokyo. Depending on seasonal conditions and visibility, the visit may incorporate Oishi Park or another suitable Mount Fuji viewpoint to provide the best possible experience on the day.

02:15 PM – 03:30 PM Continue to Oshino Hakkai, a picturesque traditional village renowned for its crystal-clear spring ponds fed by water originating from Mount Fuji. Walk through the atmospheric village setting surrounded by traditional architecture, small bridges, local shops and beautiful natural scenery. On clear days, Mount Fuji creates a spectacular backdrop to the village, making this one of the most memorable photographic stops of the journey.

05:30 PM ONWARDS Arrive in Hakone and experience a slower, more traditional side of Japanese hospitality with an overnight stay in a carefully selected hotel or ryokan-style property. After check-in, settle into the peaceful surroundings and enjoy time to relax. Where provided by the confirmed accommodation, guests may experience a traditional Japanese onsen, allowing the evening to conclude in the calm atmosphere for which Hakone is renowned. A traditional Japanese dinner may also be included at selected ryokan properties according to the final accommodation arrangement.

Enjoy scenic viewpoints across the lake and continue towards Hakone Shrine, where traditional vermilion structures and towering cedar trees create one of the region’s most atmospheric settings. Walk through the peaceful shrine grounds and, where operational conditions allow, visit the famous lakeside Heiwa no Torii, appearing to rise from the waters of Lake Ashi. A short scenic cruise on Lake Ashi may also be incorporated into the experience according to the final routing and operating schedule.

Walk through selected parts of the district with your guide while learning about Kyoto’s traditional entertainment culture, architecture and customs. As evening settles over the city, continue through beautifully preserved streets before enjoying time to explore or dine independently.

08:30 AM – 10:30 AM Begin the morning at extraordinary Fushimi Inari Taisha, one of Kyoto’s most recognisable spiritual landmarks. Walk through the shrine complex before entering the famous pathways lined with thousands of brilliant vermilion torii gates, creating one of the most distinctive scenes in Japan. Discover the symbolism of the Inari shrine, observe traditional fox statues and experience the peaceful forested pathways that extend towards Mount Inari. Enjoy free time for shopping, local street food or independent dinner before regrouping for the return journey to the hotel.

05:00 PM – 07:00 PM Discover a completely different side of Osaka in colourful Shinsekai, a neighbourhood filled with retro signs, traditional eateries, amusement-style streets and unmistakable local character. Walk beneath the famous Tsutenkaku Tower, explore Janjan Yokocho and experience the lively atmosphere of a district known for preserving the personality of old downtown Osaka. Enjoy time for photography, local snacks or independent exploration as the neighbourhood's signs begin to illuminate for the evening.

OPTIONAL FULL-DAY ALTERNATIVE Guests who prefer a theme-park experience may replace the standard Day 08 Osaka sightseeing programme with a full day at Universal Studios Japan. This should be offered as a pre-bookable optional upgrade, rather than automatically included in the standard Japan Golden Route. The applicable supplement should depend on the confirmed travel date, Studio Pass pricing and any selected Express Pass. Guests selecting Universal Studios Japan would not participate in the standard Day 08 Kaiyukan, Umeda and Shinsekai programme.
